Beyond is open – Angelic Beyond Limited now available!

The BattleBeast Breedables community is buzzing about the opening of  “The Beyond”.
The Beyond is like “dragon heaven” – where an old or unwanted (*sniff, sniff*) dragons can be sent, in exchange for Dragon Gold Points (DGP).

Dragons can be sent to the Beyond by using the dragon touch-menus: More / Beyond. A confirmation dialog will tell you how many DGP would be credited to your account, if you send the dragon to the Beyond.

There will be a series of Limited Edition dragons available ONLY from your dragon points.
We are pleased to be able to show you the very first one: The Angelic Beyond Limited,
which has a special “Golden Beyond Limited” eye (which might be by breeding).

New Update, wearable dragons, Breath traits, a Raffle… lots of fun!

Last week was an exciting and busy week for the BattleBeast Breedables dragon breeders in SL!

The development and testing team completed work on Update v1.9.4, so it’s now available at all the BBB Stores. Release Notes for the update were posted in a Group Notice, or ask someone in the BattleBeast Breedables main chat group for a copy of the Notecard.

We’ve always known the dragons were magical, and they’re now showing off their ability to be worn on your avatar! This latest update add an ability for you to wear your dragons. Just right-click “Wear” to have the dragon perch on your shoulder. Any size dragon (from Tiny up to Legendary) will scale down to a special temporary “wearable” size – and not lose it’s actual Size trait. (To have it resume it’s actual, use “Drop” to rez it on the ground (or skybox/platform), or “Detach” to have it return to your SL Inventory.) While worn by your avatar, your dragon can eat, mate, battle, and TP with you when you travel to auctions and other places. (Note: Pregnant females who reach 100% of their pregnancy term while worn will wait until you rez them on the ground, to drop their eggs. Just seems like the proper thing to do. Would you like a fresh dragon egg on your head?  Heck, no! ;))

Breath traits – introduced some time ago, hadn’t propogated as expected. We’ve heard a story about a programming bug, but we suspect it was that the dragon makers hadn’t issued the proper magical incantation (yep, that’s the story! ;)). We’ve now confirmed that Fire and other Breath traits are being seen in some new dragons eggs the last few days, so we’re glad the wizards got that all sorted out. We’ve heard about Fire, Ice, Acid, and Gas, so far… stay tuned for more.

Last Saturday, we held a Q&A Session at the lovely Brawnz Isles region.  Great questions, ideas, and suggestions – it’s very much part of the dragon breeder community, and we always enjoy a chance to hang out with the breeders and dragon fans!  Part of the fun was a raffle: two lucky attendees each received a brand-new baby Tiny (Size trait) dragon. Congratulations to the winners!
(Rumor has it Wynter leaked some info about v2.0 dragons, but… we don’t seem to have any notes on the specifics ;))

Shareable Food, Update v1.8, More Hybrids, New Sizes spotted on the Grid!

Shareable Food is now available!

One of the often-requested “wish list” items has been shareable food. The new food with a “sharing” drop-down menu is now available (v1.7) in all the Stores, and on the SL Marketplace.

When the food owner touches touches Eucommia or Ligustrum, it will give you drop-down menu choices:  Owner, Group, or All

Owner – Only the dragon’s owned by the food owner by eat this food
Group – Any dragon in the same SL group as this food, can eat this food
All – Any dragon can eat this food (so beware!)

Update v1.8-P

We’ve recently made Updater v1.8-P available. (As before “-P” means you can also update Pregnant dragons with it).
The most recent Updater is always available at any of the BattleBeast Breedables Affiliate locations.

Update v1.8-P contains:

  • Bug fixes for coupling and stats
  • Additional measures to negate the impact of SL’s “Region Idling”
  • Extends the time frame for the dragons to eat “original food” (v1.02) for a while longer
  • Introduces four new Hybrid Dualtone breed combinations

New Hybrid DualTones

Four new Hybrid Dualtone breed combinations were introduced in version v1.8:

  • White scaled & Pink feathered
  • White scaled & Purple feathered
  • Black scaled & Pink feathered
  • Black scaled & Purple feathered

All of these new Hybrids are on display at the Main Store.  Stop by and see which one you like best!

New Sizes spotted on the Grid!

Congrats to Basona Melody for breeding out the first Legendary size dragon on the Grid!
A Legendary is one size larger than the Guardian dragons. Word has it she got the Legendary from
breeding two Guardians together.

We’ve also left a clue… in the Main Store area, about another size dragon not yet birthed out. 😉

Battle Tournaments  being organized

Several groups are starting their own Battle tournaments and ‘fight night’-style events.
Check the Tournaments tab here online, for event locations and schedules.

Hybrids, and Mutations… Oh My!

Following is based on a Q&A session held 07/26/2012 at Wheels Family Breeding.

In v1.3 and v1.4, several new enhancements have been added to the dragons. Not everything has been bred out and seen on the grid, so today we’re going to talk about some (but not all) of what’s come out, so far.

The BattleBeast Breedable dragons can now have up to 5 traits: Breed, Eyes, Tail, Wings, and Size.

New Trait: Stardust wings

Stardust wings looks different on different breeds; it passes, and adds to whatever breed colors are already there. Stardust wings were randomly injected in existing dragons as part of the update process, in going from v1.3 to v1.4. This means that some of your existing dragons may be carrying Stardust wings as a hidden trait, and it might surface as a visible trait, as they produce offspring. Stardust is a Wing trait, not an a trait for the entire body.

Q: Are these traits all passable through 3rd-4th gens and up, or do they need “new blood”?
A: Stardust wings are passable, without any restriction of number of generations, and without needing new starters.

Hybrid traits

The hybrid traits are an example of pushing the genetics model ahead in an innovative way. It will provide way of adding some traits in depth, which is something people have asked for (that you have to breed out, and then breed out further, to get to them).

The breeding mix (of possible traits) is usually: male visible, female visible, male hidden, female hidden. The hybrids are a little different, because we didn’t want to drive people “nuts” trying to figure it out :).

In order to qualify for a hybrid mating, the traits being mixed have to be Visible in the male, and Visible in the female.

New: Hybrid Tails

The existing tails that were first introduced in v1.3 were Normal, Ridged, Triple Ridged, and Barbed. In addition, we’ve now added the first hybrid tail trait. The first hybrid tail comes from mating a Barbed Tail with a Triple Ridged Tail; you might get a “Triple Ridged Barbed Tail”. As mentioned above about visible traits, you have to have a visible Barbed tail, and a visible Triple Ridged tail.

New: Hybrid Breeds

The first Hybrid Breeds come from mating a Western Scaled one of color with a Western Feathered of another color. As with the hybrid tails, both of the traits required to produce a hybrid have to be visible, and that gives you a chance, but no guarantee, of the hybrid trait being in the offspring. Once a dragon has a hybrid trait, it can pass it along to it’s offspring as either visible, or hidden.

Q: Is it only a combination of western scaled & feathered? or will fancy & feathered also mingle?
A: It’s only scaled and feathered, for now. We might add in some others, later. This is an experiment, to see if you like it, and see how they breed out. Not all colors (breeds) mix like this, only certain ones (see below).

Most of them have been bred out – so if you’ve been watching chat, you’ve seen or heard of most of them. We’re going to show you all of them, tonight. Some of this is nice, as a puzzle, but we also want it to be FAIR, and FUN!  As we add in new hybrid combinations, and we’ll announce what they are, shortly. Those are the 4 combinations that are in the dragons now (v1.6).

– Western Azure/Black Hybrid DualTone (from mating Azure Scaled, and Black Feathered)
– Western Black/Blue Hybrid DualTone (from mating Black Scaled, and Blue Feathered)
– Western Orange/White Hybrid DualTone (from mating Orange Scaled, and White Feathered)
– Western White/Green Hybrid DualTone: from White scaled and Green Feathered

Q: So you can have a stardust hybrid?
A: Yes – Stardust is a wing trait, separate from the breed trait, so you can have, for example, a Western Black/Blue Hybrid DualTone dragon, with Stardust Wings.

Q: Does it matter which the parents are?
A: For any of these pairings, the Scaled and Feathered can be either Male or Female, either way.

Q: Will there be hybrid color tails too?
A: Hybrid colors tails….. hmmmm 🙂

Q: What happens if you breed a hybrid coat to another hybrid coat of a different colour?
A: Oh, good question! Both hybrid coats are possible as the one that will pass (as hidden, and visible). Currently – we don’t “mix” hybrid coats to mate even-more-hybrid coats.

Mutation Traits

We have also recently added a genetic “mutation” model. What you normally get in a genetic mix is based entirely on the visible and hidden traits of the parents. With the mutation model, sometimes… you get something different, that didn’t exist in either of the parents (as visible, or hidden). Mutations happen rarely in nature, so it’s not something to count on. When it does happen, it will most always result in someting interesting and rare.

New: Size Traits

Size traits pass as normal traits, and also use the genetic mutation model. In the case of Size, we all started with Normal Size dragons. Some dragons were randomly injected with a different Size hidden trait as part of the update process. So, new sizes will breed out… as those hidden traits are in the genetic mix. We’ve already seen some Dwarf and Guardian sizes come out – more than likely from those injected hidden traits.

Matings also have a chance to produce changes in the Size trait based on a small % chance – a mutation. This is the first dragon trait that has can mutate. In the future, there will be other mutation-capable traits.  So, as a result of those visible and hidden sizes breeding out, and some additional mutations from matings, you’ll begin to see more Dwarf and Guardian sizes, and it will be interesting to see what they can breed out…

There will be some fun things in the battle and gaming part of what we do, based on the Size trait of the dragon.

You have to breed dragons that are only one-size away from each other. So, for example – a Dwarf and a Guardian, can’t breed 🙁

Q: Are these traits avaiiable now?
A: Yes.

Q: Can you give an example of a mutation?
A: When you mate a Normal with a Normal, you also have a small chance of getting a Dwarf or a Guardian. If it comes out, A small %, but possible, and (from then on) it will be part of the genetic mix (as visible or hidden) when it mates.

Q: So if we don’t have it in the blood yet, its a rare occurance that will bring it to us ?
A: Yes, that’s right. All dragons started as Normal Size/Normal Size. As part of the update process, some of them have been injected with traits that are hidden. You’ve likely seen chat about that, likely, as you’ve used the Updater.

In some of this, we’re covering new ground… and not all of what we do has been “spot on”. in v1.3 we had the new tails being a high % when you mated a 2T with a 2T. That was something one of the breeders really thought would be great. We tried it, and it … led to a small *explosion* of tails 🙁 So… we’re all learning.

In our next release – v1.7, we’re going to make most of the traits “a little easier” to get, to help balance things out. But not “too easy!”. We don’t want it to be all about being frustrated, and we want it to be fun!

What’s next?

One of the highest priorities right now is to get the Beyond vendors working, so you can use your Dragon Gold points. “Dragon Gold” points will be an ongoing part of what the dragons are all about.

Q: What sort of things will be available from dragon gold
A: We haven’t made the final decisions on that. Right now… jury is still open. We *love* getting suggestions. One of the things we wanted to do – right from the beginning – was to get the community involved in how this progresses.

Q: Will buying a starter wont increase chances of any of the new traits?
A: Not a higher % of new traits, but let’s talk about that for a minute. we stay with a pretty normal genetic model – that means that if a trait is there, it can be bred out. So … if you’ve got scaled/scaled and you breed it with scaled/scaled – you’re pretty much going to get scaled, unless there is a mutation. It might be better to buy a dragon at an auction, with a trait you can see, and then breed it out further, or combine it with something else from another line.

Q: I’ve noticed a significant decrease in a trait: Tourmaline Crystal Eyes.
A: The Crystal eyes are harder to get than Lava eyes, and the Lava eyes are harder to get than Glass eyes Crystal eyes are one of the traits that you can get as a hidden trait from a starter, so there might not have been very many, to start with.

The traits don’t have the same % chance of coming out. Glass eyes are easier, lava are harder, and crystal harder still, and some of the LE eyes even more so. If you mate a glass/glass (visible/hidden) with glass/lava there is a much greater chance of getting the glass. So if you want a rare trait to breed out… battle the dragons, and breed it with another rare trait.

Q: Does that include LE starters?
A: Yes – the LEs can have any of the traits, as hidden.

Q: At one point I heard there would be tournaments..is that still on??
A: We’re meeting with (edit) “W.B.F.” (Worldwide Battle Federation) this weekend, to talk about some ideas. If you’re interested, please contact wildorchid Fairymeadow, Blue Loxely, or Ferrari Rahja.

All 3 dragons have been very popular, and we look forward to seeing how people are breeding our their traits, mixing them with other breed colors, and eyes!

DRAGONS.. a Month in Review

[slideshow]

BattleBeast Breedables has reached the end of its first month since the company launched its beast on March 9th.  The BattleBeast dragon emerged into Second Life with a majestic and awesome, powerful and loyal entrance.. it is not just a breedable, it is a battling, evolving creature of personality and mystical surprises.  During its short life the group has grown steadily, bringing a friendly and welcoming community of Dragon lovers to BattleBeast Breedables.  After a weekend of music, games and festivities, the launch party ended and BattleBeast was off and running.. or flying, as the case may be.

In evolving their three-fold concept of breedables mixed with battle mixed with roleplay, the announcement was delivered mid-March that dragon battling was on.  Soon after, dragon owners began to challenge one another to battles and to design tournaments that feature the dragons world of experience points, stamina, and health stats. At a Q&A session during the month, BattleBeast Resident displayed a piece of armor worn on the head of one of his dragons.  One could see that the battle concept of these dragons is just beginning and there are some fun aspects beginning to surface.  “We are providing the base, the beginning of battle,” said BattleBeast, “ and looking to our community to let us know what they need from us, to make the Battle Experience what they’d like it to be.”  “We are listening to them and love the input and direction they are providing.”

Around mid-March, dragoneers also began to discover the power of the crystals, FREE to anyone at the main store and also available in the dragon starter packs.  One of the most often asked questions, it seems that  there may be hidden secrets about the crystal still remaining, but we WERE given a peek into what they do.  What DO the crystals DO?  We’ll share with you the top ten most asked questions, including that one and the facts that we’ve discovered, later.

The fun continued when the best Dragon Pick Up Lines contest was opened for entries in mid-March.  That was followed with the Best Comeback to the Pick Up Lines contest and both drew some great responses.  All winners were awarded  wonderful trophies created by Keichimaru Murakami and Hikari Vixen.  Rumor is that future contests will involve a lottery crystal of some sort and will award random gifts to a dragoneer on occasion.  hmmm yet another awesome crystal power….

Speaking of rumors..  has anyone heard talk of BattleBeast dragon gold?  As all dragon-lovers know, dragons stockpile gold and those who dare try to steal from their lair face a grave battle, indeed.  This leads one to wonder.. about this rumor of gold.  Will the dragon bring gold to their master, as a gift?  will it be earned?  battled for? What power or favor would this gold bring its owner?  Dragoneers are still unveiling the power of the crystals, they don’t yet know all the truths hidden in them and now it sounds like another dragon reward is around the BattleBeast corner!

Moving on to the end of the month, The BattleBeast breeders were treated to a touch of spring when an LE Dragon was sold for a limited time.  This Limited Edition special dragon brought three spring coat colors along with a spring eye, all of them passable new variations of the coat and eye traits.  BattleBeast Breedables also participated in the grid-wide Spring Fever Breedables Hunt, when they provided a glimpse of the Spring LE Dragon in the form of a dragon statue.

The BattleBeast staff continues to stay busy in the dragon lab planning, improving and listening to suggestions brought to them from the imaginations of their awesome community.  “It is exciting to move to the next step”, says Marketing Director Andi Canare.  “The experience of our group members and dragoneers is one of the things that keeps us enthused to make our beasts better; to grow and evolve him into being even more.”  “We are planning the next reveal of dragon growth and development, added Wynter Sommer, “but of course, you’ll have to keep your eyes and ears open for what and when they will be released.  Suffice it to say, our BattleBeast Resident is showing no sign of slowing down, rather he’s fast forward, full speed ahead.”   What will the next 30 days bring?  Well, the community and the dragon will help determine that, but among fundraising for Relay For Life with their team, Dragons For a Cure, taking part in the upcoming Home & Garden Expo’s Breedable Fair and the grid-wide Nature’s Hunt (fantasy edition) they ARE definltely looking ahead and flying forward.  Stay tuned…

Top Ten  BattleBeast Questions

Question 1: What is that crystal for?!

Answer: This is probably one of our most common questions. So here is the answer. The Yellow crystal is currently the most common. It glows when a male is ready to mate, and it sends sparkles to a female as she gets pregnant. We also have additional crystal colors which will act as a type of “lottery” related to time. If a certain crystal is near a dragon in pregnancy recovery, sometimes – not all the time – it being there will speed up the recovery time. Or, if a different colored crystal is near a female getting pregnant, it being there will sometimes – not all the time – improve her chances of having a more rare trait.

Question 2: Does fighting (battling) unlock any traits?

Answer: No, if a trait does not already exist in a beast’s genetics, then it will not suddenly appear.
However, battling has other benefits for breeding. As you get higher in Level and XP from Battle it will change the affect the genetic mixing has when that dragon mates. So the more rare traits that might be carried in that dragon – Visible or Hidden – have a better chance of coming out.

Question 3: My computer and connection are slow. Does this mean I am at a disadvantage for battling?

Answer: No! Right now, our battling is turn-based, not real time. Therefore none of your genetics or your battling will be affected by the quality of your computer or your connection speed.

Question 4: Is there a dragon “haven” or a way to send off our “unwanteds”?

Answer: Yes, it’s called the “Beyond” and its already a button in your dragon’s menu. (More -> Beyond) However, it is not yet active. We are hoping to have that available sometime in April.

Question 5: How old do the Dragons have to be to mate, and how long can they breed?

Answer: They are old enough to breed at 7 days, and will continue to breed until they are 180 days. There is no limit to the number of eggs they may have in this time period. Pregnant females may battle; there is no restriction on battling.

Question 6: How long can the dragons battle:

Answer: They can begin to battle at 5 days of age and will continue until 250 days old, as long as they maintain vigour and euphoria greater than or equal to 50%. We may look into extending battle for Ancients in the future.

Question 7: How often do they mate?

Answer: It takes both male and female 3 days to gain desire. After mating, the male drops to 0 and begins to regain desire immediately. The males can mate about 2 times a week. The female is pregnant for 3 days, then will have a 3 day recovery period before beginning to regain desire.

Question 8: These things are awesome and I want in! Where do I find the BattleBeasts?

Answer: Come visit us at our mainstore located at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/
La%20Terrasa/238/130/22 or stop by our website, www.battlebeastbreedables.com

Question 9: Tell us about BattleBeasts Customer Support System?

Answer: A ticket can always be filed at our website at www.battlebeastbreedables.com/ticket and one of our support team will respond promptly and the issue will be handled as soon as possible.  You can also join our group, BattleBeast Breedables and chat with our awesome community.  We have a tremendously friendly and helpful community.

Question 10: Why are you called BattleBeasts and not BattleDragons?

Answer: Because there might be other beasts in the future! We want to take this wherever it might go.

it’s the Year of the Dragon..

[slideshow]

Celebrating 2012 as the Chinese Year of the Dragon, BattleBeast Breedables introduces a revolutionary concept in SL: combining a breedable animal with gaming. The BattleBeast Breedables Dragon is the first SL project to unify the fun of breedables, gaming, and role play (RP).  Our very exciting “Countdown to Launch” project started last week, with a Closed Beta. “This testing is an instrumental part of our program”, said BattleBeast Resident,  “I might add that Closed Beta has gone quite smoothly and the group of people who’ve been testing the dragon have been happy with the project and are very enjoyable to work with.”

What’s so revolutionary about a breeding dragon, one might ask?  Well, the BattleBeast Breedables dragons don’t JUST produce off-spring, eat, interact, and look amazing in accessories… (although they DO look amazing in accessories),  the Beasts battle!  Gamers will appreciate that XP, Levels are earned through battle. Stamina, strength and speed are a blend of Nature and Nuture: Breeding and Battle. As you breed your dragon traits to produce the best possible (“Nature”), the dragon also gains through battle (“Nurture”).
Better Battles means Better Breeding, and Better Breeding means Better Battles.
The BattleBeast dragon is a game built around its own history and adventure.  Then add in the fact that they hunt, they patrol and you can ride them, and you’ve got Second Life revolutionary!

“We’re excited to unveil the world of the BattleBeast,” said Project Manager Wynter Sommer, “which yes, begins with the dragon, but the future holds so much more than the dragon for us.”  She refers to the ‘world’ of the BattleBeast because this Second Life ‘world’ can mean different things for different SL residents.  One group might choose to build an arena and host battles or participate in tournaments, hold auctions and rent habitats, while another might choose to focus on breeding and sell amazing dragons, while yet another may open a shop full of the fashions that a dragon trainer might wear.

“An exciting approach we’re bringing to SL breedables is our intent to encourage and support the secondary market,” added Wynter.  “We want to see accessories built for the beasts and sold by others.  We are talking with potential affiliates who not only choose to house our vendors but also add their own accessories, habitats… their ideas to what would be perfect for the dragon, and sell it right next to our vendors, in their own shops.”  Wynter summarized by saying, “Together, our team has probably owned every breedable in SL and we understand the importance of that market and how it keeps the game fun for everyone.  We want this experience to grow and to be rewarding for all of us.”

Collectively, the team brings years of creating, coding , marketing and customer service experience.  Its artist was employed with a major animations and 3D entertainment corporation that probably everyone would recognize, in RL.  The scriptor has vast experience in the world of Second Life scripting and real world programming, and many would instantly recognize the projects completed by him, as well.

A group is forming in Second Life now in preparation to begin the final phase of testing before the big launch.  Open Beta is not expected to last too long before BattleBeast hosts its public release during a 2-day celebration where visitors will be able to enjoy the BattleBeast experience.  Battles will be staged, hunts will be available, live music and festivities will entertain those who come out to Welcome the Dragon to SL.  Search for the Battlebeast Breedables group inworld and join in!  For more information, visit our web site at www.battlebeastbreedables.com.

The story of the BattleBeasts…

The mist of a primeval dawn parts…  As the sun burns red into the sky, a fierce, powerful creature is silhouetted against the dawn.  Nothing like this majestic beast has ever been seen.  Somehow knowing all eyes are upon him, he rears upon his back legs, swinging his fierce head to survey all that is before him.  Then without warning he roars and spews a stream of fire high into the sky.  The creatures of the land cower before his might.

Just when they felt it safe to look up, the earth and sky began to rumble and shake. When at last they dared to look they saw that the horizon was filled with these creatures … large and small … red, black, blue and green.  Their scales glowed in the light of the new day, eyes like molten crystal glittering in the light.  Some thundered across the ground and others soared high above, their wings so enormous they nearly blotted out the newly-risen sun. Sometimes from deep within the primordial forest the sounds of their battles could be heard as they fought one another for power, for position … and for mates.  When they mated the air was filled with the energy of creation and the species flourished, growing stronger and better with each generation and each battle … at least those who survived.  These were the first, the genetic patterns for all of their kind that were to follow.

Long after these beasts first appeared, two legged creatures began to crawl and then walk the land, bringing their own fire with them.  When they gained language they called themselves humans … and the magnificent beasts were named dragons. But even deep in the caves and swamps and forests they could not escape the relentless movement of the humans into their homes.  Over the eons their habitats shifted and shrank until there was no place in that world that could support them.

And so they found a new world, a new life — a second life.  And here they continue their age-old traditions of birth, development, mating, battle, and death. Their second life, their new adventure… has just begun. Come join us!
